Is kilz the same as Gardz?
Kilz product is thin but I believe it has a little more workability than Gardz. And no odors isn’t as strong either.

@p16 Used Gardz quite successfully and also Rustins MDF Sealer. Agree with the some of you about the fact it is water based may cause an issue and using something like Coverstain may be better.
Can you skim coat over torn drywall paper?
Skim-coat the affected area with joint compound and a trowel. Spread the compound thinly (no more than 1/32 inch). Apply a second coat as needed to make the missing-paper area blend with the surrounding drywall material. Allow to dry completely.
When can I paint after Gardz?
Drying Time –Dries to touch in 30 minutes. Porous surfaces that have been sealed with Gardz are ready for finish coating or wallpapering after 3 hours. Top coating / Wallpapering– When dry, Gardz may be top coated with any standard architectural water-based or solvent-based primer or topcoat paint.
Is Gardz a stain blocker?
