You can run them inside the wall up through the ceiling/attic, inside the wall down through the floor (depending on what is beneath the living room), or simply down the wall and on the floor.
How far should I place my projector?
For any given projector, the width of the image (W) relative to the throw distance (D) is know as the throw ratio D/W or distance over width. So for example, the most common projector throw ratio is 2.0. This means that for each foot of image width, the projector needs to be 2 feet away or D/W = 2/1 = 2.0.
Does a projector need to be centered?
A projector does not have to be centered on the screen if the projector has the horizontal lens shift range to move the image onto the screen. Not all projectors have horizontal lens shift, which is not the same as keystone correction.

Projectors can be tricky to get right, and especially when it comes to brightness and daytime use projectors can really start to show their weaknesses. Bright light can lead to washed-out/dim projector images, but you can get projectors that work well during the day, indoors and out.
Can a projector be placed at an angle?
You can use your projector at an angle, just be ready to make some adjustments to the image. Chances are, it will be off-center or distorted at first. This doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to move the projector, there are ways you can bring the image into focus, either with keystone correction or lens shift.

Using that calculation, a 100-inch projector screen requires an optimal viewing distance of 119 inches or 3m from the screen. This formula is the generally accepted guideline for judging the optimum distance between the screen and your seating area.

With one caveat..which we will get to in a bit. If your family likes being near the center of the theater, then choose a screen size which has about 10 inches of diagonal for each foot of viewing distance. That’s about 120-inch diagonal for a 12 foot viewing distance.

You can put a projector on its side but this may significantly decrease the lifespan of your projector. While almost all manufacturers say not to turn a regular projector on its side, there are now projectors being made suited for being stood in such a position.
Can you point a projector at the ceiling?
