What does ARC Value Village stand for?
In 1982 Arc’s Value Village Thrift Store opens in Richfield to provide funding for ARC. In 1990, ARC stops using the name “Association for Retarded Citizens” out of concern about the label “retarded” and changes the name from ARC to Arc. The Arc is now used as a noun and not as an acronym.
What items does Arc accept?
The Arc accepts a variety of donations including clothing donations, household items donations, and even jewelry donations. Because each chapter accepts different donation items, please contact the charity in your area for more information on items they do not accept.
Why do Goodwill clothes smell?
Mildew spores in the air. Maybe some air freshener to boot too. It’s not just Goodwill but most of the thrift and secondhand stores that smell. Sometimes you get into a Goodwill and the smell will hit you like brick.
What do thrift stores do with stuff they don’t sell?
Even if every donor takes care to donate responsibly, thrift stores can’t sell everything. The items that don’t sell or are deemed unfit for resale are sent to Goodwill Outlets, where customers can then buy items by the pound.

We only operate as Value Village in Washington, Oregon and Alaska in the United States. We operate as Savers in the other U.S. states. We are not in all 50 states. We also operate as Value Village in all Canadian Provinces.
