Heat transfer vinyl is also known as HTV and iron-on vinyl (or just iron-on) – and the terms are often used interchangeably. It is an apparel vinyl that is used to decorate garments, mugs, tumblers, hats and so much more.

Heat transfer vinyl is a specialty vinyl material that is used to decorate or personalize T-shirts, garments, and other fabric items. HTV contains a heat-activated adhesive backing, which allows the vinyl to permanently transfer to your garment when heat pressed with sufficient time, temperature, and pressure.

What material can I use HTV on?
Fabrics such as cotton, cotton/polyester blends, polyester, and canvas work well with heat transfer vinyl. There are types of vinyl that can also be used with nylon and leather. However, products such as paper and plastics do not work well because they cannot take the heat required to adhere the vinyl to the substrate.
Does Cricut iron need transfer tape on vinyl?
There is no transfer tape required with Cricut Iron-On Vinyl because it is already hooked onto the vinyl. It makes it REALLY easy! Also, it is why you put the SHINY SIDE DOWN when you cut Cricut Iron-On Vinyl! That means you are putting the shiny transfer tape on the sticky mat surface.
How do you use iron on paper with Cricut?
Keep this is mind as you create your design. Select and size your design in the software. Select Everyday Iron-On from the list of materials. Can you use HTV on acrylic?
Press the heat transfer vinyl onto the acrylic for 5 seconds at 300 degrees. Re-cover the acrylic, now with HTV on it, with the parchment paper and press again for another 5 seconds. The second press will finish bonding the vinyl to the acrylic and any lines made by the carrier sheet should disappear.
