What is gate vestige?
Vestige refers to any extra material extending from a molded part at the area of the gate after gate runner removal (such as by an automatically trimmed gate). Vestiges generally require manual removal.
What causes gate vestige?
In our work, the product safety problem of injection molded parts called gate vestige was investigated with a three-plate multi-cavity mold. The main causes of gate vestiges were found to be shear and orientation conditions during molding.
