Fix-a-Flat is designed to seal small tire punctures in seconds and provide enough inflation to lift the rim off the ground. Fix-a-Flat seals 33% larger punctures than other tire repair aerosols and has been trusted for 50 years as an easy-to-use, better alternative to the spare tire.
What does Fix-a-Flat actually do?
Fix-a-Flat contains both a liquid tire sealant and a small amount of air. When you hook the can up to your tire and push the button, the air inside forces the sealant out and into the tire. Once inside, a latex emulsion foam plugs any leaks, and the propellant expands to inflate the tire.

How Long Can You Drive with Fix-a-Flat? Is Fix-a-Flat a good idea?
If your car has a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), Fix-A-Flat is probably the last thing you want to use unless you have a few extra bucks to get it repaired. The TPMS works by sensing the air pressure in your tire via a tiny hole. Fix-A-Flat will cover this hole, plugging it up for good.

Warning: Fix-a-Flat is not designed to repair completely flat tires. If you’ve driven the tire over a nail or if some other object has torn a hole in the tire, then you will probably be able to find the hole easily. Make sure that the damage is not too extensive and not larger than ¼ of an inch.

If the nail hole is in the side wall you might not have success. If the nail is in the tread portion you must remove the nail before using the Fix-A-Flat.
Is it better to plug or patch a flat tire?
Tires are typically patched when the puncture is less than a quarter-inch in diameter, but it also depends on the location.
