What should I feed my earthworms?
Worms will eat anything that was once living, Leftover vegetable scraps, fruit and vegetable peelings. Tea leaves / bags and coffee grounds. Vacuum cleaner dust or hair clippings (also animal) Torn up newspapers, egg cartons or soaked pizza cartons. Crushed egg shells (these will also help with the pH balance).
What should you not feed earthworms?
Avoid feeding the worms large quantities of meat, citrus, onions and dairy foods. Some processed food also contains preservatives, which discourage the worms from eating it. These foods won’t harm your worms, but they will avoid them and those scraps will break down and rot in the bin.
What should I put in my worm farm?
Roughly 50% food scraps [nitrogen] and 50% paper or cardboard [carbon] is the magic formula for worm farm success. Food scraps, aged lawn clippings, tea leaves, coffee grounds, and vacuum cleaner dust – almost anything organic.
Do earthworms drink water?

Once every week, pour about five litres of fresh water into the Top Working Tray, which will flood down through the lower trays, ensuring the entire worm farm remains very moist. The sudden ‘flood’ will not harm the worms. Adding water is especially important in the hotter months of the year.

Is it safe to keep worms in the fridge with food?
Do not keep worms in the refrigerator with your food. The box will take up too much room, and the refrigerator may not have the proper temperature. Use a white refrigerator, because black absorbs heat.
What do worms like best?

Earthworms are also able to use this food source. Earthworms consume coffee grounds and deposit them deep in soil. This may account for noted improvements in soil structure such as increased aggregation.
Can worms eat banana peels?
Bananas are a great and inexpensive snack for both us and our worms. Those peels are desirable to compost worms no matter what shape they’re in. To make food easier for the worms to consume it is good to chop or puree it.

Keep in mind, though, a worm kept in a little worm farm with nothing but dirt won’t live very long because they need food to eat.

Do worms eat bread?
Yes, in moderation, bread, and in fact, all grain based foods, are worthy of your worms’ processing power. However, these starchy foods can end up a gooey mess. So, use them sparingly and with a close eye, or just avoid them until your bin is well established and you are comfortable amending as needed.
