The flourish tabs wont cause an ammonia spike, they really dont contain any nitrogen period. If you disturbed your substrate a lot its possible that could have stirred something up.
Will Flourish tabs hurt shrimp?
Some amount of copper is fine. I use Flourish Comp in my tank without any issues and it also contains copper. Some shrimp keepers also use Flourish Trace which has higher concentrations of copper in it without issues. Comp has less copper than tabs, but Trace has more copper.

Too much could burn the root system. I used a mixture of flourish and jungle root tabs. Root fertilizers don’t have to be expensive.
Do root tabs cause algae?
In my experience, it should be fine for the plants. However, you might start growing lots of algae when there is too much nutrient and it seeps into the water column.
How long does it take for root tabs to work?
It should only take about a week for the plant roots to reach and use them and for sure for you to notice that theyre working. they should last a good two to three months depending on how heavy a root feeder you have on top of them.

Generally, it takes plants at least two years to fully develop a sustaining root system. Properly planted and watered plants should be fairly well established, and can thrive with less watering than you may expect.
How long does it take for plants to adapt?
