Pinning is a skill that most miniature enthusiasts pick up at some stage; essentially it’s a method of securing a limb or other item to a miniature. It’s used in situations when superglue is not strong enough to hold the model together which is pretty often in my experience of superglue and metal minis.
Do you need to pin metal minis?
One of the downsides of metal miniatures is that the bond between two metal components can often be quite brittle, especially if you’re using superglue. What are cobalt drill bits for?
Cobalt drill bits are incredibly strong. They can be operated at much higher speeds than a standard HSS drill bit. The ability to withstand heat means that cobalt bits perform for long periods without cooling or the need for cutting fluid. They are most often used to cut through hardened and abrasive materials.
When drilling metal should you use cutting oil to lubricate it?
We recommend you always use a metal cutting fluid or lubricant when you are drilling. There are 3 main reasons you should use a cutting paste: Reduce friction. Assist cooling.
How does a manual drill work?

For metal miniatures, you want a primer that hardens and for lack of better words, “sticks better” to the metal or resin surface. This means you probably want an enamel-based primer. Enamel is a much harder substance than the polyurethane material of a lot of non-rattle can primers.
Do you need to wash metal miniatures before painting?
It’s always a bit of a toss-up, painting minis without washing them first. I often don’t bother, but I’ve had cases where spots of remaining oil from the manufacturing process prevented primer from properly sticking to the surface.
