What do you install under a shower pan?

Line the underside of the shower drain flange’s rim with latex/acrylic or silicone caulk, per manufacturer’s instructions. In some cases, plumber’s putty – a commonly used drain flange sealant – will degrade the shower pan material, so be sure to check the manufacturer’s instructions carefully here.

When installing a plastic shower pan silicone sealant should be applied to?

Do you have to put mortar under a shower pan?

If sliding shims under the base does not work, opt to install the mortar bed. This is usually a good idea when floors are badly sloped or the use of shims is simply not practical.

ALL CEMENT BOARDS MUST be installed in a fresh bed of thinset. Unmodified thinset is preferable. If you want the cement board under the shower tray then do so – doesn’t matter. If that creates plumbing issues you can’t deal with then leave it out.

Do you put Hardie board under shower pan?

In tub and shower enclosures, ensure that the framing is adequately reinforced at the corners and ends. Boards may be installed vertically or horizontally. Do not place cement board into the shower pan mortar bed.

Ensure you cut away enough of the concrete to leave adequate space for the waste. Place the waste in the hole and check that it doesn’t affect the level of the tray. This will ensure proper drainage and avoid any damage. As long as there are no leaks, you can fit the shower tray.
