Can you epoxy over bark?
If you choose to keep the bark on your live edge and the type of wood is ideal for it, we’ll use epoxy to seal and protect the outer layer. We clean up the bark well, removing any loose particles that could float in the epoxy before it sets.
How do you keep bark on live edge lumber?
Pour over epoxy resin is your best bet to hold the bark in place if you plan on keeping it. Polyurethane would be another option, but won’t be quite as strong. Oils and waxes seal the wood, but they aren’t going to serve as an adhesive like epoxy would to keep the bark in place.

Sanding will not only get out the imperfection but will also serve to provide some tooth between the first and second layers. It will look very scuffed in the short term but do not worry, once you pour the second coat over top, all of those sanding marks will disappear.
