How To Cut Corian Countertop

When you order a Corian countertop, it usually comes precut to the size you specify, but if things change during the installation procedure and you need to cut it, you can do it with virtually any saw that cuts wood, including a circular saw. To use a circular saw, you need a blade that can handle thick plastic.

What type of blade is used to cut Corian?

You can use any kind of circular saw to cut Corian, but the blade has to be a triple chip blade made out of tungsten carbide. Any other sawblade can damage your Corian or your circular saw.

Is Corian hard to cut?

Unfortunately, the combination of Acrylic plastic and the ground minerals can make Corian hard to cut. Acrylic plastics tend to chip when cut with high-speed tools, especially if the blades are dull. Adding the minerals makes the Corian hard on blades, dulling them quickly.

Can you cut Corian with jigsaw?

Just don’t let the corian guy catch you cutting corian with a jig saw. That’s a big no no with them. I used to to be certified to fab corain and they forbid us to cut with a jigsaw. It can cause the corian to crack.

Can you cut Corian with an angle grinder?

If you have/know someone with a multi tool (Fein), that would work for the back cuts very well. I just cut mine well with an angle grinder and thin cutting disk. 40 watt CO2 laser will go right through it.

Can I cut Corian with a table saw?
