How do I camber my car?

Some vehicles allow for adjustable camber by turning a bolt with a large washer on it. The washer is offset, or eccentric, so that turning it causes a suspension component to move in or out. OEM camber bolts can be replaced with a performance set of camber bolts to provide a greater range of adjustability.

How much does it cost to camber your wheels?

You should expect this to cost between $150 – $200 at most mechanics. However, like most auto repair, this is not a hard and fast rule. A mechanic might charge more for particularly complicated cars or ones which require specialized equipment.

Is it good to camber your wheels?

Having too much negative camber on your car wheels is a guaranteed way to run through your tyres quickly. The angle creates more contact space with the road, resulting in premature wear and tear of the car tyres. This would be especially applicable when you are taking your car off-road and driving it on rough terrain.

How do you set camber at home?

Are camber kits necessary?

When you lower the car, the camber will go out and you need a camber kit to fix it. However, I find it is not necessary to correct the camber in most cases. Most people think they need a camber kit because of a tire-wear concern. The reality is, TOE ANGLE kills tires WAY faster than camber ever will.

Is camber good for drifting?

On a drift car, you want to run the rear camber as close to zero as possible. This will usually give you the best tire wear and best forward bite. If you want a little more side grip, you can run some negative camber, but usually no more than 1 degree negative should be run.

Does camber affect alignment?

Too much inward or outward tilt, also known as negative and positive camber, respectively, indicates improper alignment and will need to be adjusted. Worn bearings, ball joints, and other wheel-suspension parts may contribute to camber misalignment.

Will camber wear out tires?

Camber can cause a pull, but it doesn’t do it by being extremely negative or positive, but by being different from side to side. However, a difference in camber side to side will not result in tire wear, only extreme amounts of camber, negative or positive, will cause tire wear, but this wear will be relatively slow.

How much camber is too much?

Usually somewhere between 1-2 degrees is a good place to start. When I owned an 8th generation Civic, 2 degrees in the front, with 2.5 degrees in the rear was common. The setting you choose will serve as a baseline.

Does camber cause uneven tire wear?

This is called negative camber. If the tires are in a neutral or positive camber state, the shoulder of those outside tires will bear the brunt of the vehicle weight transfer and cornering force. This results in both less-than-optimum grip through the corner, and premature, uneven tread wear.

What does bad caster cause?

In any case, set back may result in a negative caster condition because a wheel, left or right, was pushed back. Result: The wheelbase is now shorter on one side of the vehicle than the other. Too much negative caster may cause the vehicle to wander and cause the steering experience to become mushy.
