Can you bleed Magura brakes with a Shimano bleed kit?
Shimano brakes use mineral oil as do Magura brakes, so there’s no fundamental incompatibility and you can use the same bleed kit providing the fittings work.
How do I adjust my Magura mt7?
This will vary from bike to bike, so Magura builds an adjustment by using a banjo bolt fitting that allows the hose to come off at any angle. To adjust, simply loosen the T-25 banjo bolt and rotate the brake hose to the preferred angle and snug it back down.
Can I use any mineral oil in Magura brakes?
All MAGURA brakes use low viscosity mineral oil (Royal Blood) as hydraulic medium.
Can I use Shimano mineral oil on Magura?
you need seperate stuff. Shimano stuff will probably destroy the magura seals. They both use mineral oil, and I’ve seen quite a lot of people mixing shimano levers with magura calipers (it’s called shigura!) and using shimano mineral oil (because it’s cheaper). No issues reported.
Are Magura brakes good?
Magura’s MT7 Pro brakes offer powerful and predictable stopping power, require zero maintenance and manage heat better than most of the brakes I’ve ridden. The thicker, 2mm rotors are durable, resist warping and the oversized 4-piston caliper is ready to stop you no matter how steep it gets.
How do you bleed Magura Julie?
Squeeze the lever blade, hold pressure and check hose connections and the reservoir cover for eventual leaks. Squeeze the lever blade several times (pump) to push the pads to their proper position until the lever feel becomes very firm. If you cannot realize this, bleed the brake (see page 15 onwards).
Can you use car brake fluid in a mountain bike?
Broadly speaking, hydraulic disc brakes designed for bicycles will use either a mineral oil fluid, or an automotive DOT fluid. Genuine Shimano Mineral Oil is the only fluid compatible with Shimano brakes.
When should I replace my Magura brake pads?
Magura brakes are to be replaced as soon as the backing plate and pad material measure less than 2.5mm in any section. SRAM brakes are to be replaced when the backing plate and pad material measures less than 3mm in any section. Shimano brakes are to be replaced when the pad material is less than 0.5mm.
Are hydraulic brake levers interchangeable?
If you can get the hydraulic lines to mate up, they’re 100% interchangeable, from the latest 11-speed road levers going all the way back to the 9-speed-era MTB brakes.
Are Magura levers interchangeable?
All Magura levers can be run either way up so you can swap front/rear brakes left/right without needing to detach hoses and re-bleed, it also makes sourcing replacement levers much easier.
Why are my bike brakes still spongy after bleeding?
If air gets into the brake lines, it can prevent brake fluid from flowing properly, causing the brake pedal to feel spongy or soft. If the brakes are soft or spongy, this is a good time to change or flush the brake fluid. Flushing the brake fluid, commonly called bleeding the brakes, gets rid of the air.
Can you use DOT 4 instead of mineral oil?
No, mineral oil and DOT brake fluid are different and are NOT compatible.
What can you use instead of mineral oil for brakes?
Alternatives for mineral brake fluid / oil (in a pinch) Fork cartridge oil (the lighter (more viscous) variant) Total / Castrol LHM Plus Fluid ( I believe it’s power steering fluid).
Can I mix different brands of mineral oil?
THE ANSWER IS NO! Even if two different brands of oil have the same viscosity, you still should not be mixing them together. Technically, using a grade of oil that’s recommended by your car manufacturer is correct. However, if you combine two different brands of motor oil, you could be at risk of damage.
Does mineral oil go bad?
Mineral Oil is a non-drying oil, which means that it will not polymerize (form a plastic-like substance) over time. This is good for oiling cutting boards because it will stay a bit liquid in the wood and flow into cracks and scratches. It is also food-safe and won’t go rancid or support microorganisms.
What is hydraulic mineral oil?
What is hydraulic oil? Hydraulic oil, also known as hydraulic fluid, is a synthetic (man-made) or mineral-based, non-compressible fluid that is used to transfer power in hydraulic machinery and equipment. At Nationwide Fuels, we supply 99% mineral-based hydraulic oils.
What oil do Shimano brakes use?
Shimano brakes use mineral oil, as opposed to DOT fluid.
Do Magura brakes work with Shimano rotors?
Shimano rotors can technically work with Magura brakes but are not optimal for the task because they’re 0.2mm thinner than the models recommended by the manufacturer.
Can you use Shimano rotors with Magura brakes?
Registered. I switch wheels between magura rotors and shimano rotors and it works fine. I prefer the magura rotors though as that extra thickness is reassuring. You do have to pump the brakes up once or twic at most to get them to settled.
Is Magura MT4 good?
That makes the MT4 a very compact brake, with a narrow clamp that takes up little space on the bars. The lever is well shaped with a nice feel with a preference to one-finger braking, but two-finger panic braking is doable too. Power at the lever is impressive.
Do you have to bleed new MTB brakes?
All new brakes come with a factory bleed. Sometimes this factory bleed really sucks. New brake cables usually require some trimming and so a bleed will be required if your cables need to be cut to fit properly.
What oil do you use for hope brakes?
At Hope Technology we have decided to use DOT5. 1 brake fluid because, in our opinion, it offers the best performance even in suboptimal conditions. It has the added benefit of being widely available thanks to its use in the automotive industry.
How do you adjust Magura hydraulic disc brakes?
If the lever has play in this setting, there is air in the system and the brake must be bled.
