ArtResin was designed as a surface coating as opposed to a casting resin. It was designed for thin applications and naturally self-levels to about 1/8″. As long as you pour in 1/8″ layers, you can go as thick as you like.
How thick should you pour epoxy resin?
For a pour less than 20L (5gal), a 1.5” layer should cure fine without overheating but for pouring more than 20L, we recommend breaking it up into multiple layers of about 1” per layer to avoid overheating. Keep in mind that FlowCast® is not recommended for pouring anything less than 1/2 inch.
How deep can I pour casting resin?
Resin can be poured up to 2” thick per pour, and up to 4” depending on the volume of the pour. Step 5: Use a heat source such as a heat gun to remove any bubbles by adding a small amount of heat to the surrounding area. The bubble will rise to the surface and pop.
How thick can you put on epoxy?
For heavy duty situations, standard epoxy floor coatings and resinous systems can be installed at thicknesses of 0.375 inches (375 mils or 3/8”) or greater. These typically incorporate various strengthening aggregates or powders, followed by application of select grout coats and topcoats.
How many layers of resin can you pour?
It’s important to remember that the ideal ArtResin pour is 1/8″ – if you pour any thicker, you may end up with trapped bubbles in your cured resin that weren’t able to escape to the top to get torched out. You can, however, layer ArtResin in multiple coats, as high as you’d like, as long as you pour in 1/8″ increments.
How thick should resin be?
As long as you pour in 1/8″ layers, you can go as thick as you like. The reason we recommend this thickness is two-fold: first, it allows the bubbles to escape properly, and second, it avoids any excessive overheating of the resin. So for best results always pour in a 1/8″ layer, and you’re good to go!Feb 6, 2021.
Why is my resin so thick?
The working time of resin (also known as the pot time) is the amount of time you have to use your resin once the two parts (resin and hardener) are mixed together. The mixture gradually thickens as you get closer to the end of the resin’s pot time.
How much deep pour epoxy do I need?
There is a general rule to help you understand how much epoxy you need. For coating epoxies, one mixed gallon (half a gallon each of resin and hardener) will cover twelve square feet at a thickness of 1/8 of an inch. This may vary by brand though, so always check the manufacturers instructions to be sure.
How thin can you pour deep pour epoxy?
This resin is not designed to pour less than 1/4 inch deep or for thin coats. When pouring 1/4 inch molds or coasters Deep Pour will take between 24 to 48 hours to cure hard to the touch. Deep Pour may remain in it’s liquid state for up to 36 hours.
How thick can you pour clear cast?
Casting thickness: When used at room temperature (70-75°F), Amazing Clear Cast Plus will self-level to approximately 1/8 inch. Maximum casting thickness is 3/8 inch. Additional layers can be poured in as soon as 4-6 hours and up to 12 hours.
How thick can you pour glaze coat?
Glaze Coat CRAFT is self-leveling. However, if necessary, spread the mixture over the area with a toothpick or small tool. Do not persist in re-spreading the mixture as it sets up, otherwise it will not self-level during the curing action. Do not pour more than 1/8” thick in an application.
What’s the difference between resin and epoxy?
The main difference between both adhesive types is the drying time. Both epoxy and resin adhesives require mixing before use, but epoxy hardens much faster than resin glue. Resin glues take longer to cure, about 8-10 hours, while epoxy adhesive only takes about 6-30 minutes.
How long should you wait between resin layers?
You can pour thin or thick layers to add embellishment, and create dimension and 3D effects. Allow your resin to set up 3-6 hours between layers, depending on the weight of what you’re adding to the next layer.
How do you stop resin from spreading?
Break the surface tension by going over the edges with resin using a brush or an epoxy spreading tool. This will prevent the epoxy from dripping over the edges in uneven lines. With this technique, every corner and edge of your art piece will have a glossy, polished finish.
Do you have to sand between layers of resin?
Sanding will not only get out the imperfection but will also serve to provide some tooth between the first and second layers. It will look very scuffed in the short term but do not worry, once you pour the second coat over top, all of those sanding marks will disappear.

I use regular flour (white) all the time. Shawn Baker turned me on to it. It won’t rot or mildew anymore than wood flour will. It takes a fair amount to get a thick paste and will substantially increase the volume of the mix.
How do I calculate how much resin I need?
For a round surface, you will need to measure the diameter. Divide the diameter by 2 to calculate the radius. To calculate volume in cubic inches: (radius squared) X pi (or, 3.14159265) x (desired epoxy coating thickness). Divide by 1.805 to convert cubic inch volume to US fluid ounces.
