How many wires can be in a Romex connector?
Never run two cables into the box through the same knockout opening with pre-installed cable clamps. Each cable requires its own knockout opening and clamp. For installed clamps (whether they’re metal or plastic), no more than 2 wires should be installed in each connector of this type.

Can Romex be exposed?
Code and common sense both dictate that Romex shouldn’t be left exposed but must run through conduits. If you are running it through the basement or attic (or both), the wire must past through studs or be secured on top of joists or trusses.
