Does A Release Shorten Draw Length

Release shouldn’t affect draw length. You set your draw length to achieve proper form, and then you anchor differently per release. I personally use two or three different wrist releases, 3 handhelds, no changes in DL.

Does draw length change with a release?

Registered. Your draw length will not change by using a longer release aid. The only thing changing is your anchor point.

Does your draw length change with thumb release?

Your release does not alter your draw length. It will affect your anchor point. The reason people increase draw length when switching to a handheld release, is to maintain the normal anchor point, rather than learn a new anchor point.

How do you measure draw length with release?

To measure your draw length, stand with your back to a wall stretching your arms out against the wall. Measure the distance from the end of your middle finger to the end of your other middle finger, basically the length of both arms, hands and chest. This measurement, minus 15 then divided by 2, is your draw length.

Can you shoot a longer draw length?

An archer can shoot good groups using too short of a draw length but will perform with tighter, more consistent groups with the correct one. Successful results are very difficult and unlikely when the draw length is too long. Some bows are very user-friendly in terms of altering the draw length.

What if my draw length is too long?

Many bowhunters shoot a draw length that is too long for them, which hurts shooting form and degrades accuracy. You hear this all the time–that a long draw overextends your bow arm and makes it harder to hold against the back wall and to maintain a consistent anchor point.

How do I know if my bow draw length is too long?

The ideal draw length for you is the one that allows you to anchor in a comfortable position, with your bow arm elbow unlocked (slightly bent) and your release arm elbow and forearm pointing straight away from the target. If the release arm elbow points left or right, your draw length is too long or too short.

Can you shorten draw length by twisting string?

You can also twist or untwist your strings and cables. Twisting the cables an even amount on each side will lengthen your draw length, untwisting them will shorten your draw length. You can twist or untwist the string to adjust draw length, but it won’t quite do as much.

The longer your draw length, the longer your bow’s power stroke will be – and the faster your bow will shoot. As a general rule, 1″ of draw length is worth about 10 fps of arrow velocity. Bows are predominantly IBO Speed* rated at 30″ draw length.

What’s the average draw length?

If you have an average draw length of 27 to 29 inches, any modern compound bow matched with a good arrow and set to 60 pounds will work just fine on whitetails, mule deer, pronghorns, and the like with whatever broadhead style you prefer, so long as your shot placement is good.

Does a shorter draw length affect arrow speed?
