We have used Mod Podge (not ‘Modge Podge’ as I know lots of us call it) successfully for a lot of our projects, including sealing over vinyl, making custom photo canvases, and glittering pretty things. Mod Podge is also non-toxic and generally safe to use with older kids.
Can you clear coat over Cricut vinyl?
Vinyl graphics are much less expensive and can be applied by anyone. To keep the vinyl graphics looking good and to keep them protected, they can be sprayed with clearcoat paint. The clearcoat paint keeps the vinyl from peeling and makes the surface easier to keep clean.
Do you need to seal Cricut permanent vinyl?
If you use the permanent vinyl and let it cure, you should not need a sealant. However, if you really want to add a sealant, the one that lasts the longest and is FDA approved is epoxy.
Can you polyurethane over Cricut vinyl?

So if you plan on cleaning your mugs regularly in a dishwasher, you can do that by sealing them with Mod Podge Dishwasher Safe Sealer. This sealer can hold up in heat and be run through a dishwasher.
How do you get vinyl to stick to stained wood?
Stain can leave an oily residue that will make your vinyl lift from the surface. Seal with a waterbased Polycrylic then wait 24 hours. Your vinyl will stick better and stay on longer! This one tip may save you a ton of future frustration on those stained wood projects.
How do you get vinyl to stick to a textured surface?
On a smooth surface, a flat scraper or credit card works great to push the vinyl down. On a textured surface though, you need to be able to push the vinyl down into the uneven surface so that it really sticks. You can also try rolling a tennis ball or rubber ball over the vinyl decal to really push it into the wall.
Is it better to use HTV or permanent vinyl on tumblers?
For water bottles, I would definitely go with adhesive. There are specialty ones that can withstand heat transfer vinyl, but it has a special coating on it that will accept that. So use a permanent adhesive for glasses, mugs, cups, whatever, it’ll stick great.
Should I polyurethane over vinyl?
For this reason, polyurethane brushed on heavily CAN seap under a vinyl wall decal and damage the adhesive so that the decal will latterly curl up – see photo.
