Can I use Rit dye on canvas?
If you are dyeing a canvas shoe, then you can use our original All-Purpose Dye. If you are dyeing something unknown, then use our dye for synthetics, Rit DyeMore.
Can you use dye on canvas?
Dyeing a canvas tarp is an easy project as the untreated natural canvas will hold dyes better than many other fabrics. Any fiber-reactive dye will work on canvas and will produce better, longer-lasting results than clothing dyes like RIT.

How long will Rit dye last?
Rit has an unlimited shelf life. When storing liquid dyes, be sure the cap is secure to prevent evaporation. Powder dyes should be stored in a cool, dry place. If you want to store powder dye after it has been mixed with water, you can do so in an airtight container.
Can I leave Rit dye overnight?
Rit Dye is the best for this! My only tip is to leave them in the washer, soaking in the dye bath for several hours or even overnight to get the darkest black possible.
Does Rit dye have to be hot?
Rit loves hot water because it loosens the fibers in the fabric to accept the dye. We recommend using the hottest water safe for your fabric. If dyeing natural fabrics (such as cotton, linen, silk or wool), use Rit All-Purpose Dye at 140° to 160°F (60 to 71° C).
