Does the tile app always have to be running?
Why does the Tile app need to run in the background? Keeping the Tile app open in the background of your device allows it to continue to keep a Bluetooth connection with your Tiles while they are in range. When the Tile app is closed, it breaks the connection between the Tile app and your Bluetooth antenna.
How long does the battery on a tile last?

Can I use a tile that I found?
Tile is a tiny Bluetooth-enabled tracker and companion app that allows you to locate your items, fast. If you’re out of Bluetooth range, the Tile app remembers the last place you had your things and even shows you where they are on a map. If you still can’t find your lost item, use Tile’s Community Find feature.
