Measure the widest length of your radiator, including the valves at either side. Add 50mm to your measurement to allow for the 20mm fixing return on DeepClean radiator covers. The total dimension will form the required length measurement for your radiator covers.
How much bigger does a radiator cover need to be?
For your radiator to stay efficient, enough space between the radiator and cover needs to exist. The radiator cover should, if possible, be wider than the radiator by at least: 5cm in width. 3cm in height.
Are radiator covers standard size?
To limit the loss of heat ensures that you choose the size that allows free air flow around the radiator, in all directions. Standard covers are 88cm high, double check that this is the right height for you, otherwise contact us to get a bespoke quotation.
How do you measure a radiator cover in inches?
The way to measure up for a radiator cover / cabinet is as follows: Measure from the end of each radiator valve and add 20mm (this is the internal length). Measure from the floor to the top of the radiator and add 30mm (this is the internal height).
Can a radiator cover be too big?
It’s possible to have a bigger radiator cover than your actual one, but always make sure that the maximum measurement will fit in your space. The window heights, alcoves, and obstructions will not block where a larger radiator cover is to be fitted.
Are all radiator covers the same height?
Most radiators are 60cm (23.5in) tall or less, and as long as your radiator isn’t any taller, you don’t need to record the height as our standard 70cm high cover will be suitable.
Are radiator covers any good?
Yes. The good news is that well-designed radiator covers leave plenty of space for the warm air to travel through. A radiator cover could actually even improve your heat efficiency if the cover includes a reflective foil backing, which we mentioned earlier.
Do radiator covers come in different depths?
DEPTH: Please measure from the wall to the front of the radiator; our Standard Radiator Cabinets are 22cm deep, which means these are suitable for radiators up to 17cm deep measuring from the wall to the front of the radiator.
How do you measure the length of a radiator?
To calculate their size, you should measure from the centre of one pipe to the centre of the other. Just use a tape measure from the middle of the left inlet to the middle of the right inlet to record an accurate pipe centre measurement.
Can you put things on radiator covers?
Because most covers have elevated tops, the covers’ tops are significantly cooler, and this allows select items to be placed there. Even heat-sensitive items like plants can be placed on a well-insulated radiator cover.
What radiator size do I need?
In most cases 1-2 radiators will suffice, however for larger rooms you may require more. The amount of BTU’s required per radiator will depend on how many radiators are within the room – so divide the total BTU requirement by the number of radiators to calculate the average BTU’s required per radiator.
Are wooden radiator covers safe?
Because wood is a good insulator, wood radiator enclosures will not transmit heat to the degree that metal covers will. So, if your house is so cold that it needs to take advantage of every BTU that your radiators can offer, you may not want to choose wood covers.
Do you have to screw radiator covers to the wall?
The only thing is, radiators are deeply important but don’t look that great. If you’re happy doing bits of DIY around the house then fitting a radiator cover isn’t a tricky job. However, if you’re not confident, you can simply stand them against the wall so there’s no drilling involved.
Should you cover radiators with clothes?
This is why you shouldn’t hang your clothes on radiators Scientists warn that people could be helping mould to thrive by drying their clothes on radiators. This mould can subsequently cause Aspergillosis, a fungal condition that can affect the respiratory system, and can spread to anywhere in the body.
What kind of wood is used for radiator covers?
Wood: Hardwoods work well, especially if you want the cover to blend with natural wood trim in a room. They’ll transfer less heat than metal and they’re more expensive. Engineered wood: MDF (medium density fiberboard) is good for a painted radiator cover. This material is sturdy like hardwoods but cheaper.
Why do they put radiators under windows?
In the past, radiators have often been located under the window in a room because this is the coldest area in the room. This interacts with the cold air from the window, and this cold air then helps push the hot air from the radiator into the room.
Are radiator covers a fire hazard?
Benefits of radiator covers Safety: If not appropriately placed within your home, radiators can pose a dangerous fire hazard and a significant risk to both pets and children. Radiator covers are also useful at preventing the appliance’s heat and moisture from damaging your furniture and the walls in your home.
How close can a radiator cover be to the radiator?
It’s a good idea to have enough space between your radiator and your cover so the heat can be distributed more evenly. The gap between the radiator and the cover should be at least 5cm in width, 3cm in height and 3cm in depth to ensure it won’t affect the BTU output.
How is radiator width measured?
Radiator Height and Width This step is very simple. Just take your tape measure across the furthest point of your radiator, from one side to the other, for an accurate measurement of width. Then, do the same for the height, use the tape measure from the foot of the radiator to its highest point.
