How To Wash A Quilt With Cotton Batting

Washing, even when done on a gentle cycle, causes fabrics to fade and is abrasive to fibers. As a last resort, cotton quilts can be washed in cold water with a gentle soap by hand or in the machine on a gentle cycle. Do not wring or twist a quilt; instead, gently squeeze out the water.

Is cotton batting machine washable?

Once used in a project, this batting is washable by machine or hand and is dry cleanable. Cotton and Cotton Blend battings can shrink up to 3-5%. To avoid shrinkage prior to use, we suggest you soak the batting in hot water for 20 minutes.

Can you wash a quilt in the washing machine?

For any quilt, less washing is best to prevent fading. Hand-washing is the preferred method for cleaning quilts. Even with a new quilt, machine-washing can cause the stitching to ravel. If you decide to machine-wash, use cold water, a gentle detergent, and the shortest delicate cycle.
