Is it OK to leave filament in my 3D printer?
A 3D printer melts the plastic filament that has been loaded to create objects. Leaving filaments loaded inside a 3D printer for an extended amount of time will not necessarily harm the printer. It may compromise the quality of the objects the printer will produce with that filament.
How long does PLA last after printing?
PLA prints kept and used indoors will last virtually forever if they are not used to sustain heavy mechanical loads. Based on anecdotal evidence, an object made of PLA will at least 15 years when kept indoors. Under these conditions, You should have no problem with gifts and decorative items printed with PLA.

If you’re actively printing, PLA will usually be OK if left out. You could find a 2 gallon ziploc freezer back and toss it in there with a packet of desiccant for storage.
What happens if PLA gets wet?
PLA absorbs water and will weaken slightly when it does. The more moisture in PLA, the weaker it will become. A wet PLA print will have a rougher texture and more imperfections like blobs, bubbly texture, and stringing.
Why does my PLA filament keep breaking?
PLA is also known to degenerate rather rapidly, which explains why it eventually snaps off during printing. The degeneration process of PLA filaments could take months, but some conditions could further aggravate the material’s flexibility. A commonly circulated theory is the moisture adsorption by the filament.
