your fine, clear it whenever your ready. providing you dont do something like spray the clear super dry or anything like that then you will be fine.

You can clear coat on top of primer, a friend of mine who works at a body shop has a mk1 golf which he painted in grey primer then laquered over it (he put glitter in the laquer) but IMO it looks good.
